Nelson Arts Festival
An annual arts event over 11 days in October, including several days of book-and-author related sessions, usually held in the Granary Building at Founders Park.

A 9 day second-hand book sale, among the largest in the country, held annually at Founders Park Nelson, for the week following the King’s Birthday Holiday weekend. Books sell at very low prices; there are thousands to choose from, and new stocks are released daily, making multiple visits worthwhile.
Books can be donated to this sale at any time through the year, by placing them in the skip at the rear of the Windmill Entrance to Founders Park, daily, 10.00-4.30.
Papers Past is an online archive of New Zealand newspapers, from European colonisation to around the 1950-60s (some regional archives are more up to date than others, but all are slowly progressing in the digitisation of their records.) The Prow is an online history resource for Te Tau Ihu o Te Waka a Māui, or ‘The Prow’ - meaning the top of the South Island.
It collects stories, images and information about the region, and welcomes submissions and writing which help fill gaps in its data - a good location for posting extracts from family histories or biographical studies.

The Nelson Photo News was a cut-and-paste pictorial magazine, recording the social life of the city and region in the 1950s and ‘60s. It is full of incidents and personalities of the day - another excellent source for memoirs and historical writing.

Nelson Provincial Museum has extensive online research access to a wide range of materials, and an especially useful photographic database in the Frank-Tyree Archive, where portrait images can be searched with a simple name-entry request.
